佐藤 辰徳

Born in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, in 1987, Tatsunori Sato graduated from Musashino Art University in 2014. After working in the production of traditional Buddhist altars, where he developed his woodturning practice, he relocated to the foothills of Mount Zao in Yamagata and established sato wood studio. He creates vessels, vases, and everyday objects from locally sourced woods including Japanese cherry, chestnut, walnut, oak, and beech.

Sato's work is guided by the character of the wood itself. Knots, cracks, and hollows are preserved as part of each piece rather than concealed, revealing the individuality of the material. Finished with natural oils or traditional fuki-urushi (wipe-on lacquer), his works celebrate the warmth, grain, and quiet beauty of wood through forms that are both understated and enduring.
